If you had $36,000 spare dollars, which would you buy?

The hoopla behind the Diane von Furstenberg Wrap Dresses has yet to die down. It may have taken a small itsty-bitsy step down, but it is far from falling. To me, this is still what DVF is known for, her wrap dresses and sultry apparel line. Who would have known she makes accessories, and enormously pricey ones at that. I am all for thinking outside of the box and following your heart, and DVF does just that, follows her heart full of gold to design the Diane von Furstenberg Heart Bag. Now I am pretty sure Diane herself is not slaving for two months over creating this bag, but this piece of art is created by a master goldsmith over a two month time period. The amount of gold is astronomical for a handbag, or just to own. Merely half a foot in diameter, the gold heart bag is lined with lush black suede and features a silk black strap. Some of you thought the Judith Leiber Bag was only to be looked at, well now what do you think of this? Personally, give me $36k to spare and I’d much rather opt for a stunning BMW 328i Coupe and still have $700 to spare. If you are high rolling, buy this masterpiece of gold art through DVF for $36,000.

We have a new category called “Introducing…”. This category is where I can post all new designers that I have heard of and are trying to break into the world of handbags. I recently received an email from Oovoo who create handbags that have a unique blend of Asian and Western influences which makes them handcrafted works of art. The name of the company is so much fun and the bag of my choice is the Oovoo Bella Handbag which is ‘flirty, feminine and fun!’ This bag is a clamshell zipper bag with black leather pleats and handles. The hand-embroidered accents add the Asian and Western feel Oovoo focuses on and gives the bag something extra. Measurements are 14”W X 14”H X 2”D and this bag is available via Oovoo for $175.

As the winter chill yipps its way into our bones, cashmere is one of the warm and soft materials I love to adorn my body with. Having a cashmere bag may not keep you warm, but it will fit perfectly into the cold season. The Valentino Cashmere Flap Bag is taupe cable-knit cashmere bag with jewel accents and golden hardware. The color scheme and materials (along with a wooden logo closure) match the cold fall and winter, but the combination of it all does not have me sold. A smaller picture of the bag looks cuddly, the bigger picture looks like an art project my mom worked on (sorry mom ) On the inside there is satin lining and an interior pocket. This bag measures 8″H x 11″W x 1″D and is available through Bergdorf Goodman for $1950.

A reoccurring color for fall is olive green. While I detest the taste of olives, the color can be striking on accessories and clothing. The Cole Haan Small Drawstring G Quilt Collection Handbag uses impeccably cut out flowers and leaves along with artisan floral quilting to make a bag that is casually cute. This handbag has suede trim that matches perfectly with the olive green nappa leather. Another great combo is the faille burgundy lining on the inside with the 3 inside pockets. For fall, this bag will look great with all of the warmer toned outfits we all wear. Measuring 8″ H x 17″ W x 3″ D, buy it through Cole Haan for $350.

I am still on the hunt for the perfect everyday bag that can sling across my body or provide ample space and a perfect slouch. It is the *new* New Yorker in me to look casual chic on the streets of Manhattan. Barneys is one of the stores to shop at if you are in NYC and their line of handbags offers distinct variety with an affordable tag. For a slouchy everyday bag we have the Barneys New York Sac Bag with Bamboo Detail. I wish the website offered dimensions but the bags shape seems to be large yet not bulky. Lucky for me I am on my way out the door to Barneys as we speak so I can check it out if it is available. Buy it via Barneys for $595.
