All Aboard! The Botox Boat is About to Set Sail!
06.03.08 | No Comments

Glamourous_botox This fall, Norwegian Cruise Line will be offering Botox, Restylane and Perlane injections to travelers in need of a touch-up on their Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Spirit ships.  Miami plastic surgeon Brad Herman will be supervising the treatments, helping cruisers to return home more fabulous than when they came aboard.

Norwegian_gem_cruise_ship_2 "We believe this expansion of our medi-spa services provides yet another opportunity to perpetuate our philosophy of imparting inner and outer beauty for our guests. As beauty and wellness needs continue to evolve, we always strive to present our guests with a premium selection of treatments that suit their individual lifestyle and preferences," explains Leonard Fluxman, president and CEO of Steiner Leisure which has partnered with Norwegian to bring hi-tech beauty to the high seas. "Our spas are the best at sea and we are continually looking for ways to enhance the guest experience on board our ships," agrees Colin Veitch, Norwegian's president and CEO, noting that on-board spa treatments already include GoSmile Tooth Whitening, Microdermabrasion and Ionithermie cellulite treatment & body contouring. "By being the first to offer these popular medi-spa treatments, we are furthering the tradition of NCL-led innovation in the cruise industry."

R.I.P Yves Saint Laurent!
06.02.08 | No Comments

Ysl_dovima_irving_penn From his first collection for Christian Dior in 1958 which made him instantly famous at the age of 21 (!), and for the four decades that followed - including the opening of his eponymous house in 1962 - Yves Saint Laurent demonstrated a relevance and influence that continues to elude most fashion designers, even now.

Vintage_ysl_looks_2

While he has been credited with helping ease women such as Catherine Deneuve, Paloma Picasso, Nan Kempner, Lauren Bacall, Marella Agnelli and Marie-Hélène de Rothschild into pants for day and evening, along with safari jackets, trenchcoats, leopard prints, boho hippie garb, and even sailors' peacoats from NYC Army/Navy stores, his biggest hit was arguably Le Smoking, based on a man's tuxedo and oozing a high glam brand of hard-edged androgenous sex appeal...not to mention a disguise in the case of a pregnant (with daughter Jade) Bianca Perez Morena de Macias at her 1971 marriage to Mick Jagger).

Ysl_portraits

"His glamorous evening clothes were often adorned with appliqués and beadwork inspired by artists like Picasso, Miró and Matisse," writes The New York Times about the designer, who recently died at the age of 71 in Paris, remarking that his 1965 Mondrian collection was "among his greatest successes...Above all, he was a master colorist, able to mix green, blue, rose and yellow in one outfit to achieve an effect that was artistic and never garish."

A Flawless Complexion Usually Comes from Knowing the Right Doctor - like Dr. Kenneth Mark & his New Anti-Aging Line
10.24.07 | No Comments

Beauty  Treating the skin of the rich & fabulous in places like Aspen, NYC & The Hamptons means Dr. Kenneth Mark knows about demanding clients & their need for complexion perfection. His product line is already used in the signature facial at the Ritz Carlton Club in Aspen, Colorado, and he recently launched a new line of anti-aging skincare with Antioxidant Hydrating Cream which contains ASTAXANTHIN - a newly discovered antioxidant which is proving its mettle as a powerful weapon in the fight against aging gracefully.

Beauty_3"Astaxanthin is a relatively unknown compound that belongs to the family of carotenoids and is really quite more familiar than you think," explains Dr. Mark, noting that by combining Astaxanthin with seven other dominant antioxidants, his Antioxidant Hydrating Cream works to repair and protect your skin against future micro-damage, making it more resistant to signs of aging. "Astaxanthin is found in many human foods and is considered the “ultimate” antioxidant. It has up to 1000 times the antioxidant capacity of Vitamin E and 100 times the antioxidant capacity of beta-carotene."

Beauty_2So while you already care for your skin & slather on daily sunscreen (right?!), adding Antioxidant Hydrating Cream to your skincare routine can help undo some of the evenutual damage caused by the stresses of dehydration, sun, and pollution.

Whether it’s Weight Loss You’re After, De-Stressing or Overcoming Phobias, Hypnosis Can Harmonize Mind & Body
10.19.07 | No Comments

Beauty_6 ...you are gettiNG  S L E E E E P Y........& more confident, thinner & generally more fabulous...

Your conscious mind accounts for a paltry 10% of your total mind - dealing mainly with decision-making & logic. Your subconscious, however, not only doesn't recognize logic, it controls the other 90%, regulating various functions throughout your body...like those pesky & persistant bad habits. "Most people eat for comfort or to relieve stress and those habits become a life-long problem.  Problems maintaining a healthy weight can be connected to some underlying emotional reason," notes certified clinical hypnotherapist, Rebecca Wesson, explaining that habits are usually changed through constant repetition of the new habit until it becomes accepted by the subconscious. "The difference between permanent and temporary weight loss is purely psychological. Habits create a psychological chain process in our brain that contributes to our repetitive actions strengthening the links."

Beauty_3

To weaken undesirable links or create new ones that are less self-destructive, many would-be weight loss success stories have been turning to hypnosis to help in the battle against the bulge. "Since your subconscious mind willingly accepts new information when you are in a relaxed state, the process of changing habits is accelerated by speaking directly to your subconscious mind and reprogramming it, via hypnotic suggestion," says Wesson - pointing out that consistently turning to food to fill an emotional void eventually registers as a normal habit in your subconscious mind, not only resulting in calorie-laden binges, but compromising your body's ability to detect & act on the signals the body gives to signal hunger and being full. "Hypnosis assists you to tuning into the body's natural reflexes so that you will only eat when you are hungry, choose the right foods for your body to work efficiently, and eat only to satisfy your hunger."

Because hypnotic behavior uses the same principles that affect social behavior - instructions, expectations, cues, and beliefs - hypnosis is particularly helpful in learning to shed work-related stress. "The vast numbers of technological gadgets on the market that are designed to keep us plugged in make it difficult to disconnect from the stressors associated with work. Doubts and feelings of guilt can not only effect vacations, but result in a decrease in job performance."

Fears, such as flying (which, surprisingly, have little to do with the actual risk involved), can also be addressed through hypnotherapy.  "During hypnotherapy the unconscious mind can be directed to claim consciousness and build confidence. This would be a part of training the unconscious to instinctively eliminate disturbing thoughts and feelings of anxiety and stress," shares Wesson. "As the demand for hypnosis has spread over the last few years, more and more people have reached out to me with regards to tapping into their subconscious mind to change unwanted behaviors/thought patterns."

Beauty
She also has a series of 20(!) CDs grouped into five categories catchily dubbed P.O.W.E.R.: Power, Overcome, WoMan, Elevate & Refresh. They cover everything from motivation, to success & purpose; ditching dispair, worries & phobias; beauty & self-esteem issues; well-being & intuition; and even sleeping better and getting your energy- & joy-levels up to par.
