or most of us, the word ‘’decoupage'’ conjures images of grade-school craft projects and Victorian-era bibelots covered with flowers and angels and coated with yellowing shellac.
But these days, there’s a whole new world of decoupage, and it’s finding a growing place in home decor.
‘’We can’t make the stuff fast enough,'’ says Annie Modica, who launched a line of decoupage home accessories eight years ago and now has a dozen employees turning out more than 30 hand-crafted designs on trays, boxes, stools, cache pots, and more at the San Rafael, Calif., company that bears her name.
A former elementary-school art teacher who learned her decoupage skills in the classroom, Modica uses vintage images of sea creatures, bugs, animals and fruit in her work, which she sells to more than 200 stores across the country.

Homeowners who want to do something good for the environment, but feel overwhelmed by the task are turning to “green” home products as a way to help conserve natural resources and add beauty to their homes at the same time.
Architects and designers across the country report that clients are requesting, and in some cases requiring, that designers find new ways to “go green.”
“Not only do people want earth-friendly and energy efficient homes, but they are demanding them like never before,” says Nate Timms, a Salt Lake City architect. “Clients are really leading the charge when it comes to green design and architects are trying to stay one step ahead by finding new products and concepts that fit the bill.”
This trend is supported by families from Hollywood to Hillsboro, and it has even made its way into a part of the home that is never very energy efficient: the windows.

The annual spring fashion show to benefit Opportunity Center Inc. has developed a loyal following over the past 11 years. Women know that it’s the place to see and buy the newest fashions from New York at very affordable prices, says Joanne Finnigan, one of the fashion show volunteers.
Organizers expect more than 700 people to attend the lunch or dinner fashion show on April 27 at Waterfall Banquet and Conference Center in Claymont, Delaware.
“Fashion show” is perhaps a misnomer. It’s more a trunk show on a grand scale. In addition to enjoying a sit-down meal and runway fashion show, guests can shop for clothing and bring it home on the spot.
Fifteen percent of all sales go to OCI to support its employment services for people with disabilities.

The contemporary fashion scene in Jamaica is dominated by designers and aspirants who merely stick to creating outfits intended for the catwalk at Caribean Fashion Week (CFW) or a sophisticated Sunday evening. However, one young entrepreneur has braved a path few have chosen - designing everyday sports and gymwear for Jamaican women, men and children.
Aneta Hendricks, a 30-something year old East Kingston native, told allwoman last week that for the past 10 years, she has been channelling her creative energies to offer brand name quality sportswear to Jamaicans within a reasonable price range.
The business-savvy young woman currently operates an outlet -Neta’s Sportswear -on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston.
